I originally created the Be Counted iOS app so that I could keep track of soccer possessions for my son and see if making changes in the way he played would improve his game. After a season of tracking it looks like some of the changes my son made improved his possession count.

One of the things that we do before soccer practice is we sit and wait in the car for soccer practice to start. Practice was at an odd time and it didn’t make sense to drive home and hang out for a short period of time and then drive to practice. We started to bring card or board games to play while we waited. Whenever we go to a game store we’re always on the lookout for a game that can be played in the car.

The first one we tried was Dominion. Dominion was a little hard to play because it required a lot of space for the stacks of cards. Then we tried Dice Masters. Dice Masters requires that you keep track of damage but the game doesn’t come with a mechanism to track the damage. When we first started playing, we’d use the damage counters from the Lord of the Rings LCG. I didn’t want to take those out of the house for fear that we’d lose them so instead I started using my app, Be Counted, to keep track of the damage.

We did a few other tweaks to play games in the car as shown in the picture below of our setup for Love Letter where I use a cell phone dashboard holder to hold the remaining cards and a sticky cell phone holder to hold the three up-cards and one unused card.
